Overview:
Japan has a full four seasons. Its 3,000+ islands stretch from the equivalent of the US-Canadian border in the north to Key West and Cuba in the south. As the currents in the Northern Pacific Ocean move in a clockwise manner, Japan is fortunate to have the "Japan Current" coming up from the south throughout the year bringing warm water and more favorable climatic conditions than might be expected given its latitude range. Between 50% and 75% of the land area of Japan is mountainous and covered with forests providing a vertical range of climates as well. Its highest peak is Mt. Fuji at 12,390 ft. (3,776 m.)
