Great Buddha
Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture
The Great Buddha, or Daibutsu, is one of the most famous sights in Kamakura. The bronze Amida Buddha was cast in 1252, sits 44ft (13.5m) high and weights 93 tons. Its distorted proportions lend people to believe that the Greeks influenced its construction, perhaps through the Silk Road. It has survived every kind of weather and natural disaster. There is a ladder inside the Buddha that will bring you to its shoulder level.
