Japan -> Nagoya -> Atsuta-jingu Shrine
Atsuta-jingu Shrine
Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture
The Atsuta-jingu Shrine is set in a grove of camphor trees and is built from unadorned cedarwood. The shrine is famous for housing the Kusanagi Sword, one of the three treasures used in the imperial enthronement ceremony. The sword is not on display, however, and has only been seen by high priests and emperors. The shrine receives millions of devotees, though, as it is one of Japan's most sacred shrines.
