Japan -> Kurashiki
Kurashiki
Okayama Prefecture

Kurashiki is a charming and well-preserved mercantile town from the Edo-period. Its name, literally meaning "a spread of warehouses", is fitting when you see the whitewashed warehouses with black and white tiled façades throughout town. The town's civic pride and strong sense of preservation has saved its history from the development that has swept away so much of Japan's historical architecture. Most of these kura (warehouses or granaries) can be found in the Kurashiki BikanChiku(Kurashiki Bikan Historical Area) where they are flanked by willow-lined canals. Most have been converted into galleries, museums, shops, and restaurants.
