Hiroshima is a city that, unfortunately, needs no introduction however most are not aware of this city's pre-WWII history. Hiroshima has a long history as a military stronghold and industrial powerhouse, the main reasons its location was chosen for the WWII bombing. The city was a staging area for troops prior to invading Korea in 1582, and the Mori clan built a military castle seven years later. This castle was used throughout Japanese history as a stronghold for military operations. After WWII, the people of Hiroshima quickly rebuilt the city, making it larger and more organized. This coastal industrial city is now prosperous and vibrant and its inhabitants rarely dwell on its past history.
