Japan -> TOKYO -> Kokugikan National Sumo Stadium Kokugikan National Sumo Stadium TOKYO, Tokyo Prefecture The Kokugikan National Sumo Stadium was established in 1945 and is the location of sumo matches. Many of the wrestlers walk to the tournaments from their beya (sumo stables) down the street and it is not uncommon to see huge young men walking around in yukata (light cotton kimonos) and wooden sandals. Inside the stadium is the Sumo Museum which houses pictures of the past 200 years of yokozuna (grand champions). |
