Hamarikyu-teien Garden    TOKYO, Tokyo Prefecture

The Hamarikyu-teien Garden (Hama Detached Palace Garden) was built in 1654 as a retreat for the shogun and his family. The garden has a few ponds that were used by the shogun for duck hunting, as well as sipping tea from the Nakajima teahouse that seems to float on the water. President Ulysses S. Grant sipped tea with Emperor Meiji in this teahouse, which was burnt down with most everything else in the park in bombing raids in WWII. Nakajima teahouse was carefully rebuilt and now the area is nice for strolls or tea and sweets around the pond.
