Japan -> TOKYO -> Fukagawa-Edo Museum
Fukagawa-Edo Museum
TOKYO, Tokyo Prefecture
The Fukagawa-Edo Museum houses a good example of the life-size Edo period shitamachi (downtown areas). These recreated towns date back to the 1840s and are carefully detailed. You can physically walk along the street and pop your head into rice warehouses, boathouse taverns, vegetable shops, and tenements. There are also building relating to the storage, preparation, and selling of rice. A canal with a traditional boat snakes through the town to the watch tower to alert the village of fire. Various sounds can be heard to lend more realism to the experience.
