Japan -> TOKYO -> Edo-Tokyo Museum
Edo-Tokyo Museum
TOKYO, Tokyo Prefecture
The futuristic science-fiction design of the Edo-Tokyo Museum is in stark contrast to the exhibits it houses on the Tokyo of the past. Meant to resemble an old style of elevated warehouse, the museum was established in 1993 and is the premier city museum. The exhibition space is divided into two sections on two floors showing life during the Edo period and then Tokyo. The museum includes a replica of Nihonbashi Bridge, the façade of a Kabuki theater, scale model dioramas, a rickshaw, and boats that once navigated the Sumida River. Some of the exhibits are interactive and have explanations in Japanese and English.
