Chinzan-so Garden    TOKYO, Tokyo Prefecture

Chinzan-so Garden was founded in 1877 and was the location of Prince Aritomo Yamagata's Meiji mansion. The estate was named Chinzan-so (House of Camellia) after the many camellia flowers on the grounds. The Prince hosted many important political meetings at his house, showing off the rolling grounds of the mansion. The property was passed on to Baron Heitaro Fujita who adorned the gardens with historical monuments from all over Japan. Among them is a thousand year old pagoda from Hiroshima that was built without a single nail, and the Shiratama Inari Shrine from Kyoto. A natural fixture in the garden is a 500-year-old sacred tree, as well as a pond, waterfall and natural spring.
