Japan -> Okayama -> Koraku-en Garden
Koraku-en Garden
Okayama, Okayama Prefecture
Koraku-en Garden is one of Japan's "famous three" gardens and was completed in 1700 by the feudal lord Ikeda Tsunamasa. The garden is a masterpiece of landscaping and was the first in Japan to use large areas of lawn in its design. Bamboo, cherry and maple trees, tea bushes, and ponds are featured in the three sections of the garden. The nearby Okayama-jo Castle is used in a classic Japanese garden device called "borrowed scenery."
