Japan -> Kyoto -> Ginkaku-ji Temple
Ginkaku-ji Temple    Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture

Ginkaku-ji Temple, the Silver Pavilion, was built in 1482 by shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa as a luxurious country retreat. He had intended to cover the entire building in silver leaf, in tribute to his grandfather Yoshimitsu who built the Kinkakuji Temple, the Golden Pavilion. Yoshimasa ran out of money, however, due to the Onin War and the house was turned into a temple. This is still one of Kyoto's greatest sights and very important to Japanese culture. The tea room in the Togudo Hall is the oldest in Japan and is said to be the model for all other tea rooms.
