The Arashiyama District lies 20min from Osaka and is a popular destination for Japanese. Its natural beauty is viewable year round with springtime cherry blossoms, and autumn maple trees. Stroll along the Hozu River to watch nighttime cormorant fishing or try running the rapids. There is a wealth of activities for any type of visitor in this beautiful place.
You can also pay a visit to Tenryu-ji Temple, founded by the first Ashikaga shogun in 1339. Takauji wanted the temple built after the spirit of emperor Godaigo, who died after Takauji exiled him, appeared to a priest as an angry dragon. All that remains is its splendid garden which features a pond in the shape of the Chinese character kokoro, "enlightened heart."
