Kenroku-en Garden    Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture

The Kenroku-en Garden is one of Japan's "great three" gardens and was created in the mid-17th century, however it wasn't opened to the public until 1871. Kenroku-en means "garden of six qualities": spaciousness, seclusion, air of antiquity, ingenuity, flowing water, and views. The Seisonkaku Villa is an exquisite two-story home built in 1863. It is known for its delicate interiors; some of the walls are coated with gold dust. It was built by Maeda Nariyasu, 13th lord, for his mother.
