Japan -> Hiroshima -> Hiroshima Castle
Hiroshima Castle
Hiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture
Hiroshima Castle was built in 1589 by the Mori clan who used the latest construction and defensive techniques. Its outer moats were built above land so the walls could be breached to flood the plains where enemies would most likely be camped. In the 19th century, the castle became the headquarters for the Emperor when the Manchus occupied Japan. After being completely destroyed in WWII, the castle was rebuilt as a museum in 1958.
